You may wonder when Brian Doyle has time to sleep. He is a firefighter in New York City, owns two riverside restaurants with partner, Nicholas Bell and helps raise his small children. It may be grueling at times, but Doyle says he wouldnt trade his busy lifestyle for a second.
I wouldnt change [my schedule] for a thing, to be honest. As stressful as it is, I really enjoy it, says Doyle.
The Westchester resident opened Sleepy Hollows JP Doyles in 1999 and Celtic Corner Pub in Dobbs Ferry two years later. Doyle says he started the eateries because he wanted a cozy pub atmosphere where you can get a good Guinness. More than a decade later, his customers have become his friends.
In 2001, he became a firefighter for the New York Fire Departments Ladder 45 station in Washington Heights. It allows him to help those in need and spend more time at home on his days off. Sometimes people forget, but its the one job where everybodys always trying to help each other, Doyle adds.
He also pulled together his fellow business owners to bring tourists to Sleepy Hollow as co-president of its Chamber of Commerce from 2008-10. By capitalizing on the famous Legend of Sleepy Hollow, he helped bring in news outlets such as NBC News and "Good Morning America" at Halloween time in recent years. Once you get your name out there, people always want to support others that support their communities, he says.
Doyle has been a Dobbs Ferry dweller since he was in elementary school. He now lives there with his wife Jennifer and 3-year old daughter, Caileigh, and 15-month old son, Michael.
