It’s a traditional camp, but with broad specialties, called neighborhoods, that campers choose to enjoy for any number of weeks, before they choose a new one.
The neighborhoods are Explore, Outdoor Adventure: Hi and lo ropes, orienteering, geocaching, archery, boating; Discover, Science and Tech: Rocketry, robotics, 3D printing, astronomy, lego engineering, darkroom photography; Create, Arts & Drama: DJ Scratch Lab, animation, pottery, theater, painting, fashion; Grow , Farm to Table: Organic farming, outdoor cooking, animal exploration; Play, Sports and Fitness: Soccer, martial arts, gymnastics, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, flag rugby.
“So, a techie kid would experience lots of different kinds of tech rather than being indoors on a computer the entire camp day; a sporty kid would get to enjoy quality instruction in several sports, rather than one (boring!); a drama kid is likely to enjoy other arts, and so on.” Said Twelve Trails director Adam Benmoise. “And siblings who like different things can attend the same camp.”
Camp Twelve Trails is a collaboration of the JCC on the Hudson in Tarrytown, the Riverdale Y, and the Washington Heights/Inwood Y. The camp is in Pearl River. Bus transportation from the JCC on the Hudson is included.
