Officers responded to 1187 Yonkers Avenue at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 3, after receiving reports of a man shot outside the location, according to Yonkers Police Sgt. Robert Spink.

First responders found a 36-year-old Yonkers resident suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm. Officers stabilized him at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Meanwhile, other officers scoured the area for a suspect. It didn’t take long before they spotted a man matching the shooter's description on Bronx River Road. He was taken into custody without incident, and police recovered a Glock 9mm handgun, authorities said.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad, Digital Forensics Unit, and Crime Scene Unit quickly launched an investigation.

Preliminary findings revealed that victim and the suspect, Levar Dimmie, 48, of Mount Vernon, had been arguing on a Bee-Line bus before getting off on Yonkers Avenue, police said. The confrontation escalated on the sidewalk, where Dimmie allegedly pulled a gun and fired a single shot, striking the victim in the arm.

Dimmie then took off running toward Bronx River Road, but officers caught up with him within minutes, police said. He was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, March 4, in Yonkers City Court.

The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. Further details may be released as the investigation continues.
