Other programs at the historical society include these:

  • Winners of the Hall of Fame Essay Contest for 10th-graders will be announced in late May.
  • The society is holding a super raffle -- with only 200 tickets to be sold ($50 each) and winner gets $5,000. The drawing will be held during the Strawberry Festival.
  • The 50th annual Strawberry Festival will take place Sunday, June 7, from 1-4, at 1 Grove St., Tarrytown.
  • Cookies with Andre will take place Saturday, June 20, at 2 p.m. For the observance of the 234th anniversary of Maj. John Andre’s capture, spend an afternoon with British officer and spy "Maj. John Andre," who will speak about his infamous life and death during the American Revolution. Andre will discuss his interactions with the traitorous Benedict Arnold as well as his career in the British Army. In true British fashion, tea and cookies will be served to all guests. Later, at 7 p.m., Andre will share his life story with adults, who will be served wine and treats.
  • Walking tours start again this summer. A two-hour tour will introduce visitors to the unique history of the Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow and to some of the most intriguing people who have ever lived here. The guides will lead visitors through the many sections of the two historic Hudson River villages and regale them in the tales both spectral and earthly. The tales include historical accounts of real people and events. Each of the past residents has left a “ghostly” mark on the community, and a few of them may still linger nearby.
