Tarrytown Environmental Council Hosts Harvest Fair

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Eco-friendly is the name of the game Saturday as the Tarrytown Environmental Advisory Council hosts its annual Harvest Fair.

The group is teaming up with the Westchester Community Foundation to sponsor a day full of environmental education, games, products and a farmers' market at Patriot's Park.

“This year's focus will be on the “Love 'em and Leave 'em” campaign to encourage home owners to mulch their leaves in place,” council chair Carole Griffiths said. “It's better for the soil and will eliminate the need for noise polluting leaf blowers, expensive municipal disposal and clogged sewer drains.”

The fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Griffiths said several other organizations would be on hand to provide information and demonstrations on reducing water and energy usage. Other environmentally-friendly groups will showcase healthy choices for personal care products, home cleaning agents, gardening pesticide-free and transportation, Griffiths said.

Families also can take part in a short nature tour and buy locally grown produce and baked goods at the regular Tarrytown Farmers' Market.
