SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. The Takacs String Quartet will kick off the 59th season of the Friends of Music Concerts series at 8 p.m. Sept. 29, the non-profit organization recently announced.
The Friends of Music Concerts series showcases a wide variety of musicians in chamber music today with support from arts grants in Westchester and the state.
Performances will take place at Sleepy Hollow High School's Kusel Auditorium on Route 9. A subscription to the 2012-13 season is $120, with individual concert tickets costing $30 for adults and $15 for students. Parking is free for all events.
The Boulder, Colo.-based Takacs String Quartet consists of violinists Edward Dusinberre and Karoly Schranz, violist Geraldine Walther and cellist Andras Fejer. The quartet will perform selections from Franz Schubert, Benjamin Britten and Antonin Dvorak.
The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 20. The ensemble will perform larger works of music involving five or more players, including a sextet from Johannes Brahms and an octet from Dmitri Shostakovich.
The Modigliani Quartet will perform several pieces, including works by Franz Joseph Hay, at 8 p.m. Nov. 3. The quartet recently has been selected for the ECHO Rising Star tour of European concert halls.
The Tokyo String Quartet will make its 13th appearance in the Friends of Music Concerts series at 8 p.m. April 6. The program will include works by Mozart and Brahms.
The Harlem Quartet will perform works from Mozart, Beethoven and more at 8 p.m. April 20. The quartet has performed at the 92nd Y in New York City and the White House.
Violinist Benjamin Beilman and pianist Yekwon Sunwoo will close the series at 8 p.m. May 4, performing works by Brahms, Schubert and Olivier Messiaen. Beilman is part of the Chamber Music Society II of Lincoln Center.
