3 Teens In 2 Stolen Cars Nabbed After Chase Injures Officer In Westchester

Three teenagers who led authorities in New York on pursuits in two cars stolen from Connecticut and Rhode Island and injured an officer in the process face a heap of criminal charges, police announced.

The incident leading up to the arrests began in Westchester County on Thursday, Feb. 15 around 2:20 p.m., when police learned that two stolen cars were traveling together on southbound Interstate 684.

An officer began waiting for the two cars to enter the Hutchinson River Parkway and followed them south once he spotted them, according to Westchester County Police.

Once the cars arrived in the New Rochelle area, officers tried pulling them over, but they both sped off instead, police said.

The first of the stolen vehicles, a 2019 Audi A6 taken from the New Haven County city of Milford, exited the parkway at Wilmot Road in New Rochelle and crashed a short distance away.

The driver and passenger, aged 17 and 15, both got out and ran into nearby streets and yards.

With the help of a bloodhound named Wren, though, the pair were soon found hiding in a backyard on Northwoods Circle, according to the department.

Meanwhile, the second stolen car, a 2019 BMW sedan taken from South Kingstown, Rhode Island, continued driving south on the Hutchinson River Parkway while evading Westchester County and Eastchester Police officers near Mill Road.

During this pursuit, the 19-year-old driver rammed the vehicle into a Westchester County Police patrol car when the officer boxed her in, authorities said.

Although the driver was soon taken into custody, the officer inside the rammed cruiser suffered a significant leg injury and was hospitalized.

All three teenagers were soon taken back to police headquarters to face charges:

The 15-year-old was charged as a juvenile and released to his parents;
The 17-year-old was arraigned and remanded to Woodfield Cottage in Valhalla. He is charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as a high-capacity ammunition magazine was found in the car as well. He was also wanted on a warrant by the Waterbury Police Department in Connecticut;
The 19-year-old was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, third-degree criminal mischief, and more. Stolen credit cards were also found in her car.

The names of the suspects were not released.
