11 Suffolk County Beaches Closed To Bathing Due To Excess Bacteria Nearly a dozen Long Island beaches are closed to bathing due to excess bacteria.  The 11 beaches are all on the north shore of Suffolk County. They are: Terraces on the Sound and Beech Road Beach in Rocky Point;  Sound Beach Property Owners’ Association Beach;  Knollwood Beach, Fleets Cove Beach, and Huntington Beach Community Association Beach in Huntington;  Steers Beach and Asharoken Beach in Northport;  Hobart Beach, Prices Bend Beach and Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck. Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore and the Town of Islip Ronkonkoma Beach remain closed. …

Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Into Suffolk County Building A 68-year-old man was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle into a building. The incident took place around 12:40 a.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at 100 Carleton Avenue in East Islip, said the Suffolk County Police. Conrad Levesque, of Central Islip, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche on Union Boulevard when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a vacant commercial building, police said. Photos: Pigs Rescued After Escaping From Trailer In Suffolk Police were on the tail of three perps who had escaped from a trailer, only the "perps" were pigs, not dangerous criminals, and their tails were quite literal. The rescue took place around 11:24 a.m., Friday, Jan. 17, when Fifth Precinct Sgt. Long Island's MacArthur Airport Adds More Florida Flights More flights will go to Florida from Long Island's MacArthur Airport starting in November. The flight will run through March, according to the Town Of Islip. The flight schedule includes ones to Fort Lauderdale throughout the year, not seasonally, and an increase in Orlando flights from one to two times a day, every day but Tuesday, Frontier will also add flights to Tampa, West Palm Beach, and Fort Myers, and year-round to Raleigh-Durham and Atlanta, formerly seasonal destinations.
