Four Officers Hospitalized After Long Island House Fire Breaks Out Four officers were hospitalized after responding to a house fire on Long Island. Police responded to the blaze on Stewart Avenue in Westbury at about 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, according to the Nassau County Police Department. Police said four officers suffered from smoke inhalation after entering the home to search for possible occupants. Utility Worker Sentenced For Crash That Killed Bicyclist On Long Island A utility worker from out of the region has been sentenced to 3-1/2 years to 10 years in prison for operating a utility truck while high on multiple drugs and striking and killing a bicyclist on Long Island. Matthew Mummaw, age 34, of Jacksonville, Florida, was sentenced on Friday, Dec. 17, after pleading guilty to manslaughter in October for the death of 38-year-old Erik Canales in Uniondale, said Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce A.
