Storm Knocks Out Power To Thousands On Long Island A powerful storm system bringing heavy downpours and damaging winds has resulted in numerous downed tree limbs, leading to road closures and power outages. Just before 8 a.m. on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25 PSEG Long Island is reporting 8,194 customers without power as a result of 319 separate outages. Most of the outages are in Nassau County, where 6,513 were without power. In areas hardest hit, residents are being urged to avoid travel Christmas morning to allow utility crews to clear roadways and conduct repairs.
