Fire Destroys Garage, Vehicles, Damages Long Island Home, Officials Say A Long Island woman and her son were saved from a house fire after neighbors woke them up by ringing their doorbell. The fire took place in Franklin Square around 11 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, on Howard Avenue. Arriving Franklin Square firefighters were met with a large garage fire with multiple vehicles burning, hazardous materials, and a collapse of the garage, the Franklin Square Fire Department said.  Firefighters had the main body of fire quickly knocked down. Long Island Woman In Critical Condition After Being Hit By SUV In Parking Lot A Long Island woman is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle while walking in a parking lot. The incident took place around noon on Monday, Dec. 28 in Plainview, said the Nassau County Police. According to detectives, a 63-year-old woman was walking in the parking lot of 401 South Oyster Bay Road when she was struck by an SUV.  The female was transported to an area hospital with serious head trauma and is currently in critical condition.  The operator of the SUV remained at the scene.  The investigation is ongoing.
