A former educator, athlete, and coach from Long Island who worked in Westchester is being remembered for the deep impact he had on his community over the years.
Longtime White Plains resident Daniel A. Woodard Jr. died on Tuesday, May 16 at the age of 93, according to his obituary.
Born in the Nassau County village of Rockville Centre in 1930, Woodard displayed talent in academics and athletics from an early age and went on to play baseball and football at Winston-Salem State University, where he formed a close bond with Coach Clarence ‘Big House’ Gaines.

Bay Shore Native Who Owned Sporting Goods Stores In NY Dies
A former councilman of a town in Northern Westchester who owned several stores in the area has died.
Joseph Albanese, who lived in Chappaqua and raised his family there, died on Sunday, Jan. 8 at the age of 90, according to his obituary.
Born in Bay Shore, Long Island in 1932, Albanese graduated from Yale University in 1954 and was a track and field letterman. He also served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1959, and after graduating from Yale, spent two years in Yokosuka, Japan, and in the Korean War.
