Southampton Police Chief Steven Skrynecki Dies At 69
The chief of the Southampton Police Department has died at the age of 69. Steven Skrynecki died Thursday, Oct. 6 at his home in Hicksville. Before joining Southampton as chief six years ago, Skrynecki served with the Nassau County Police Department for 42 years as its highest-ranking uniformed officer. He retired as chief of the department before taking the job as chief of Southampton. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo showered a Long Island town with praise for their handling of a drive-in concert held over the weekend amid the COVID-19 pandemic. During a COVID-19 press briefing on Monday, Aug. 24, Cuomo praised the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, which held Beachstock 2020 on Saturday, Aug. 22 while maintaining social distance and proper pandemic protocols. Waterfront Park Named For Famed 'Grapes Of Wrath' Author Coming To Sag Harbor
Work will soon start on a new waterfront park in Sag Harbor named for a famous author and resident. At a ceremony to be held on Friday, Aug. 16 at 10 a.m., the Town of Southampton will formally transfer management of operation of Steinbeck Waterfront Park to Sag Harbor Village. Hamptons Residents Not Happy About 60-Foot Tall Billboards
Residents in the Hamptons are protesting the Shinnecock Indian Nation’s efforts to build two 60-foot billboards along Sunrise Highway. If state officials don’t step in, the billboards would be set up on both the east and westbound sides of the highway near exit 66. There will be electronic displays on both sides.
