Coast Guard Rescues Fishermen Near Montauk Three fishermen were rescued off the shore of Long Island by the Coast Guard. The rescue took place around 9:30 p.m., Sunday, June 27 about 72 miles southeast of Montauk.  Coast Guard officials received a VHF radio call from a 44-foot commercial fishing vessel, the Nite Nurse, reporting the vessel was taking on water and sinking. Search Underway For Fisherman Who Went Overboard Off Suffolk County Coast A search is underway for a missing fisherman who went overboard off the Long Island Coast. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound watchstanders received a radio distress call via VHF Channel 16 at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 about the incident that happened 16 nautical miles south of Montauk Point.
