Boat Explosion: East Setauket Woman Seriously Injured At Smithtown Bay In Stony Brook Two people were injured, one seriously, in a boat explosion on Long Island. It happened Saturday, Aug. 5 at about 6 p.m. in Stony Brook. A 54-year-old East Setauket man was operating his boat, a 2003 Sea Ray Sundancer, in Smithtown Bay, traveling from Sunken Meadow State Park to Stony Brook Marina, when it stalled, Suffolk County Police said.  An explosion occurred on the boat a short time after it was restarted. Watch: Sailboat Explodes At Islip Marina, 1 Victim Airlifted To Hospital A man is recovering after being pulled from the wreckage of a sailboat that exploded at a Long Island marina. Emergency crews in Islip were called at around 10:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, with reports that a boat had exploded at a dock in Islip Canal, located on Main Street, according to Suffolk County Police. When police and medics arrived, there was a strong odor of gas, police said. Officers searched the boat before finding and disabling a leaking propane tank.
