Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said that suspect Andrew Ramsaroop of Queens has been indicted for allegedly raping a 13-year-old that he interacted with on Snapchat.
Specifically, he was charged with:
- Two counts of second-degree rape;
- Promoting a sexual performance by a child;
- Endangering the welfare of a child.
It is alleged that Ramsaroop began his relationship with the teen through the social media app and communicated with her for weeks before traveling to Suffolk County in May to engage in sexual acts on at least two occasions.
Ramsaroop was arrested on Friday, May 20 following an investigation.
Tierney said that on Thursday, June 2, Ramsaroop was arraigned in Suffolk County Court and he is being held in lieu of $300,000 cash bail, $600,000 bond, or $2 million partially-secured bond.
He is scheduled to return to court on Monday, June 27.
