Alexis Laguerra, 30, of Brooklyn, Raymond “Rambo” Soto, Jr., 30, and Raymond “Razor” Soto, Sr., 48, both of Richmond Hill, pleaded guilty at the federal courthouse in Central Islip last year to their roles in a bank larceny involving the theft of an armored car in November last year.
This week, U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue announced that Laguerra was sentenced to 30 months, Soto, Sr. to 33 months and Soto, Jr. to 18 months in prison for stealing the cash from an armored car in November 2018.
Laguerra, an employee of GardaWorld, the owner of the armored car, admitted to using his insider knowledge of the company to plot and carry out the heist.
Laguerra was assigned the driver of the armored car on Nov. 2, 2018, leaving it unoccupied and unguarded outside a Valley Stream bank.
Soto Jr. then arrived, entered the car, and drove it away from the bank. He proceeded to remove three bags of cash with a total of $510,000 from the armored truck.
Soto Sr., driving a getaway vehicle picked up Soto Jr., the cash and fled the scene. At the time of their arrest, police recovered $130,000 of the stolen money in Soto Sr.’s home.
In addition to their prison terms, the three have been ordered to forfeit $300,000 and pay restitution of $510,000 to GardaWorld.
“This inside job has landed the defendants inside prison where they can contemplate what a foolhardy idea this crime was,” Donoghue said. “I commend the FBI and the Nassau County Police Department for quickly solving this crime and demonstrating, once again, that crime doesn’t pay.”
In a statement, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder added, "today's sentencing of defendants Laguerra, Soto Jr and Soto Sr. is a clear example of how numerous law enforcement agencies working together brought these three defendants to justice in an expeditious manner."
