It happened around 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 in North Bay Shore.
A 20-year-old was driving a 1995 Honda Civic eastbound on Pine Aire Drive when he attempted to pass a 2006 Ford van on the right at the intersection of Peck Avenue, Suffolk County Police said.
The Honda struck the curb, then hit the Ford before leaving the roadway, hitting a sign and utility pole, according to police.
The man was ejected from the Honda.
The victim, identified as Isaiah Santos Rubio, a resident of Bay Shore, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.
A passenger in the Honda, as well as the driver and two passengers in the Ford, were transported to the same hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.
