Scammer Caught Red-Handed With $36K Taken From Woman From Region, Police Say A man was captured in the region after allegedly scamming a woman out of $36,000. The incident occurred in Sullivan County on Wednesday, May 1 in the village of Liberty. According to Chief Steven D'Agata of the Liberty Police, the department received a call from a 76-year-old resident who said the money had been taken from her as part of an elaborate scam. Man From Region Wanted For Failure To Pay Child Support, Charged With Food Stamp Fraud A man from the region wanted for failing to pay child support was also charged for allegedly collecting $1,000 in food stamps he wasn't entitled to. Sullivan County resident Keith Nash, age 31, of South Fallsburg was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 15 by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office on a family court child support warrant. According to Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, Nash owed $1,200 in support payments. He was also wanted on a felony warrant for grand larceny for allegedly collecting $1,152 in food stamps that he was not entitled to.  Nash was arraigned in the Town of L…

Drunk, Pickaxe-Wielding Man Breaks Into Residence In Region, Attacks Homeowner, Cops Say A homeowner in the region is no doubt shaken up, but otherwise okay after police said a drunk man wielding a pickaxe broke into his home and attacked him. Authorities in Sullivan County were called just before 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, with reports of an assault and attempted robbery at a home in Bethel, located on Mohawk Trail. State Police determined that the 38-year-old suspect, Daniel Desseauve, of Highland in Ulster County, approached the home carrying a pickaxe and pushed the front door open. In Sullivan County, Village of Liberty Police were called to a home at around 6 p.m. Sunday, May 29, with reports of a two-year-old child bleeding uncontrollably from his leg, according to police. When officers arrived, they found the boy suffering from two large lacerations to his leg and immediately began applying pressure to try and stop the bleeding, police said. Woman, 21, Caught In Stolen Minivan In Area Under Influence, State Police Say A 21-year-old woman who stole a minivan was reportedly stoned when police caught up to her, according to state troopers.  Troopers observed the vehicle, which had been reported stolen from Liberty, on Mahogany Lane on Friday, Sept. 18.  According to police,  Sullivan County resident Marissa J. Ghelberg, of Liberty, was under the influence of marijuana when she was pulled over.  Ghelberg was charged with the felony of fourth-degree larceny and the misdemeanor of driving while ability impaired by drugs. Police investigators are seeking the public’s assistance as they attempt to locate a wanted man who allegedly sexually abused a 12-year-old child in the Hudson Valley. New York State Police issued an alert on Wednesday for Saul Baez Jr., who is wanted on a charge of first-degree sexual abuse. According to police, Baez was arrested on the charge following an investigation by the Sullivan County Child Abuse Unit.
