Farewell to Beloved First Grade Teacher, Nancy Phethean

SOMERS, N.Y. - Nancy Phethean, 75, passed away on September 2 after a year-long battle against leukemia.

Beginning in 1970, Mrs. Phethean taught first grade at Primrose School for over 25 years. She will be remembered by many many of her students, in part because she was a warm and encouraging teacher, and in part because she remembered each of them over the years, even after they grew to adulthood. 

Mrs. Phethean is survived by her daughter, Carol Phethean and her husband, Peter Yawitz of New York City, and their two children Daniel and Nora Yawitz. Also surviving are her son, David Phethean and his wife, Tara, of Pleasantville, and their children, Diana and Elena Phethean. She was predeceased by her husband, D. Glenn Phethean, former guidance counselor at Fox Lane High School, in 2001.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, at the Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah. Interment at St. Luke’s Memorial Garden, Route 100, Somers, will follow at 3 p.m.
