“I was surprised to learn that we didn’t have a pooper-scooper law,” said Town Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy. “I thought we did. We don’t, and I think we should.”

Murphy pointed out that Bedford and Yorktown have similar canine laws and asked the Town Board to have the town attorney draft a law like theirs. The board agreed unanimously.

The Bedford law requires that dog feces be removed from the ground, placed in a container or plastic bag, and deposited in a refuse container. Penalties are as much as $100 for those who leave waste behind or deposit it in sewers or drains, or commit other infractions.
