SOMERS, N.Y. Supply yourselves, Somers dog owners, a pooper-scooper ordinance will be presented and discussed at a public hearing Aug. 9.
I was surprised to learn that we didnt have a pooper-scooper law, said Town Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy. I thought we did. We dont, and I think we should.
Murphy pointed out that Bedford and Yorktown have similar canine laws and asked the Town Board to have the town attorney draft a law like theirs. The board agreed unanimously.
The Bedford law requires that dog feces be removed from the ground, placed in a container or plastic bag, and deposited in a refuse container. Penalties are as much as $100 for those who leave waste behind or deposit it in sewers or drains, or commit other infractions.
