Festival At Somers' Lasdon Park Marks 70 Years After World War II Ending

SOMERS, N.Y. – “Operation Victory” to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II will be held Memorial Day weekend at Lasdon Park in Somers.

The event will include big band music, food served in a replica authentic mess tent, an exhibit about World War II’s impact, art galleries, and collections of vintage military vehicles and memorabilia.

“Today we remember those who sacrificed so much to protect and defend our liberty at a time when the fortunes of democracy were low,” Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino said in a press release.

“We thank our veterans and the members of our armed forces for the defense of our freedom.”

“Operation Victory” will be held from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, May 30, and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, May 31.

Veterans will be admitted free of charge; regular admission fees will be $20 per vehicle.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in World War II-era clothing if they wish to do so.
