Pull up Google Maps and you’ll notice that the Empire State is dotted with several towns ending in the suffix -kill: Northern Westchester’s Peekskill, Dutchess County’s Fishkill, and of course the picturesque Catskill Mountains, to name a few. Zoom in a bit further and you’ll spot winding creeks and rivers that are curiously referred to as kills: Normans Kill near Albany and Poesten Kill near Troy, for example. So, what gives? Actor Willem Dafoe Lists Property In Region He Purchased In 2008 A Hudson Valley property owned by one of Hollywood's biggest names is up for sale. Popular actor Willem Dafoe is listing the residence in the Hudson Valley hamlet of High Falls, located west of I-87 in Ulster County, for $1.275 million, according to the Robb Report. The 68-year-old Dafoe purchased the 1-acre property for $400,000 in 2008.  Dafoe has been nominated for four Academy Awards, with the first coming in 1986 for Best Supporting Actor in Oliver Stone's war film "Platoon." Black Bear Removed From Tree In Capital District Park Authorities removed a black bear that climbed up a tree in a Capital District park Tuesday, May 31. The bear was first spotted wandering in Albany through Washington Park, near State Street and Sprague Place, at around 5:30 a.m., according to Albany Police spokesperson Steve Smith. Officers eventually spotted the animal in a tree, prompting the closure of State Street from Sprague Place to Henry Johnson Boulevard, Smith said.
