SPRING Honors PTSA President With Annual Award

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – SPRING Community Partners prides itself on doing everything it can to benefit local children so it was fitting that it gave its annual Spring Into Action award to someone it felt epitomized that goal.

“The award is an award to a community member or school member who has sprung into action on behalf of all of our kids,” said SPRING chair Jessica Seessel.  “Lisa Ferrara has been unbelievable, one of the big things she’s done is with school supplies so they’re all online and she’s also made it easy for people to donate to give other kids supplies.”

SPRING is an organization in Dobbs Ferry that works to help provide local students with supplies, clothes, food, among others.

Dobbs Ferry PTSA president Lisa Ferrara was awarded the honor at SPRING’s third annual thank you reception on Tuesday.

“She’s just sort of opened her doors to a partnership between all of the parent advocacy groups,” Seessell said.

Ferrara said the award was something that was more of a team effort than anything else.

“I’m really very humbled by this award, I feel like I think about the work that” SPRING has done in such a short period of time, “I feel like this should go back to you,” she said.   “It’s really amazing what SPRING has been able to accomplish in two years.  It’s phenomenal.”

SPRING board member Debra Borwick said Ferrara was instrumental in working together and helping provide as many local kids with supplies as possible.

“She reacted immediately,” Borwick said.  “Lisa has worked with us to streamline the school supply process and has created a SPRING donation line on the PTSA order forms to help us finance school supply for our kids in need.  She has helped us to expand our reach.”

Running volunteer programs and donation efforts is something that SPRING and local organizations like the PTSA have worked to increase.

“The work SPRING does benefits not just the kids that you provide services for, but I feel like it benefits every child in this district because it levels the playing field,” Ferrara said.  “I feel like it’s our responsibility as community members to make sure the kids come to school with what they need.  It’s just what we have to do as parents in this community. There is no other option.”
