Rockland Florists Prep For 'Rosy' Valentine's Day

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Americans are set to spend a lot of money this Valentine's weekend with nationwide spending at $19.7 billion, an increase from last year.

Joe Pehush has been the Stony Point flowers owner for the last 35 years, and the store has been in his family for 60 years.

As usual, men are set to spend significantly more than women on their spouses/significant others, according to Statistica. The average man will spend $133.61 on gifts this year compared to $62.14 for women. Folks will also spend an average of $26.24 on gifts for their four-legged friends.

Rockland florists are among those ready for the retail surge, with many offering extended hours, including staying open on Sunday, Feb. 14, a day they are normally closed.

At Stony Point Flowers, for example, Owner Joe Pehush expects to sell over 100 dozen roses. That number is the same for Perry DiMataris who owns Rockland Florist in Congers. Both said roses -- the red ones -- are the number one seller.
