Hudson Valley Fire Leaves 24 Homeless, Injures 2 At least two residential buildings were destroyed during a two-alarm fire in the Hudson Valley that left 24 people homeless. The incident occurred in Orange County at 11:20 p.m. on Monday, April 8, at 59 and 61 Carter St., in the city of Newburgh. According to Mike Neppl, a spokesman for the Newburgh Fire Department, arriving units found the rear of 59 and 61 Carter Street fully involved with fire, which was spreading to the interior of the buildings.  Neppl said crews stretched handlines into the interior and began bringing the fire down and searching for hidden fire. In Orange County, at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, member of the Newburgh Fire Department responded to the Washington Street boat launch, where there was a report of a dog that found itself stuck out on the ice. Man Dies After Jumping From Bridge In Hudson Valley A man from the region was killed after jumping from a Hudson Valley bridge. The incident took around 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, in Dutchess County where the New York State Police began investigating a report of a man jumping from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge in Beacon. According to Trooper AJ Hicks, the Newburgh Fire Department marine unit located Orange County resident Lester R. Banta, age 55, of Maybrook.  He was pronounced dead at the scene. Three-Alarm Fire Spreading Rapidly In Area A three-alarm fire in Orange County destroyed three building of the old Newburgh lumberyard in addition to damaging two other buildings, according to the Newburgh Fire Department. Fire Chief Terry Ahlers said the department received the first call on the fire at located at Carpenter Avenue and First Street, around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday and the first crews arrived on scene within about two minutes.
