Funeral Services Scheduled For Putnam Native Killed In Crash Funeral services are planned for a 30-year-old Putnam County native who died following a motorcycle crash in Northern Westchester. Matthew Hickey, of Verplanck, was killed while driving riding a 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle east on Kings Ferry Road in Montrose, a hamlet of Cortlandt, around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 27, during a crash with another vehicle, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks. The crash occurred when a  32-year-old Cortlandt woman, driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee west on Kings Ferry Road, turned left onto Hunt Avenue, but she did not see Hickey, Hicks said. …

Area Hockey Player Named Section 1 League MVP Hendrick Hudson High School senior Brett Hanson was recently named "most valuable player" for Section 1, League D.  Hanson, a senior on the newly-created Cortlandt Rebels Ice Hockey team, will graduate as Hendrick Hudson’s all-time scoring leader, with a career total of 151 points. Hanson also was selected as an All-Section player this year in Section 1, one of only 17 players in the entire section.  This year, the Cortlandt Rebels consisted of players from Hendrick Hudson, Walter Panas, Lakeland, Putnam Valley and Haldane.
