83-Year-Old Hudson Valley Resident To Receive Bachelor's Degree SUNY Empire State College will celebrate the class of 2021 during a virtual ceremony on Saturday, June 5, and among more than 2,500 graduates will be 83-year-old Sheldon Friedland, a Yonkers resident who says that he has now realized a “lifelong pursuit.” A former business owner and beloved family man, Friedland will join 2,761 SUNY Empire State graduates on Saturday as he adds earning a bachelor’s degree to his long list of accomplishments. During her career, Johnson, 80, spent time serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Assistant Secretary for Education under President Bill Clinton and spent decades educating students in the Hudson Valley. Former Middletown Mayor Gertrude Mokotoff Dies At 100 Former Middletown Mayor Gertrude F. Mokotoff, a 66-year area resident, died at the Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill on Wednesday, Oct.17. She was 100 years old. The daughter of the late Abraham and Anna Fox, she was born on August 20, 1918, in Brooklyn. She later married her first husband, Reuben Mokotoff, a cardiologist from Manhattan, where they lived until she talked him into moving his practice to Middletown in 1954. A professor at S.U.N.Y. Koors Dies Unexpectedly At 38 Dr. Paul Daniel Koors, 38, a native of Westchester and resident of Bethel in Fairfield County died on Tuesday, Aug. 28 of sudden heart failure.  Dr. Koors was born on Dec. 5, 1979, in Irvington, the son of Paul and Patricia Koors, MD. He graduated from the Hackley School, attended Bucknell University and graduated from Brooklyn College before going to medical school at The Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
