A Putnam County Sheriff’s deputy assigned to the Narcotics Enforcement Unit received information in September last year that Carmel resident Carlos Priego was involved in the sale of heroin and prescription narcotics in the Hudson Valley.

Officials said that during the course of the investigation, the undercover officer was able to contact Priego on four separate occasions to purchase heroin and suboxone. On Feb. 15, Priego was taken into custody by investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop, when he was found to be in possession of heroin.

Priego was charged with two counts each of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, all felonies. Priego was also charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Following arraignment, Priego was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. He is due back in the Town of Carmel Court later this year to answer the charges.
