The incident began when the resident was approached by the suspects at her home and agreed to a resurfacing of her driveway on July 17, police report.

Within a couple of weeks, however, the workers returned and began spraying a substance on the newly covered driveway, according to officials.

The homeowner stated she did not agree to the follow-up work, but the alleged scammers continued to complete the job and demanded to be paid a large sum of money, police report.

When the resident refused, the men attempted to reduce the price until she ordered them off her property and closed her window, according to officials.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Police are urging residents to be aware of such tactics.

Never agree to allow blacktop work by home repair companies that show up unannounced at your door.

Take time to consult with your family members and others before agreeing to any work.

If the persons at your door are intimidating, call the police.

Those who feel they have been the victim of a similar scam or have been approached by a company they can identify, are asked to contact Officer Stanis at the East Fishkill Police Department at 845-221-2111.
