Whistling Willies In Cold Spring Is Finalist In DVlicious Burger Contest

COLD SPRING, N.Y. -- The burger, America's quintessential comfort food, can be dressed up (think Kobe beef, an expensive cheese, a housemade bun) or down (as in simple ketchup, maybe a pickle). Anyway you flip it, it's a winner.

Years in Business: Eight

Number of Burgers Offered: 14

Most Popular: The Red Eye (coffee and cumin rubbed and grilled with a rootbeer barbeque sauce, bourbon bacon, and pepperjack cheese), and the Surf and Turf (topped with lobster chunks, spinach and lemon chili mayo).

Secret "Sauce" Behind Burger's Flavor: The char-grilled burgers are handmade (they grind their own meat) with prime hanger steak and Willies secret seasonings. Served on a toasted brioche bun (sourced locally at Beacon Bread Company) with a half sour pickle, cole slaw and house-cut fries.

Worth Special Mention: "We use interesting flavor combinations and put a different spin on our burgers," explained Owner Frank Ciafardini. "It's upscale but it's still great comfort food."
