The suspect in a vehicle theft in Westchester, two brazen armed bank robberies at the same branch in Greenwich, Conn., and a holdup at a nearby gas station was arrested early Wednesday in San Diego, Greenwich police said in a statement.

The suspect, identified as David E. Byers, 34, of Solana Beach, Calif., was held by authorities in California after his arrest at about midnight, police said.

He was charged with first-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree robbery, second degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and reckless endangerment. He was held on $200,000 bond on the arrest warrant from Connecticut.

The charges are in connection with the two robberies of the Chase Bank branch on East Putnam Avenue and the Citgo gas station on the Post Road in Greenwich last week.

Leads developed by Greenwich police, with the help of the FBI, determined that Byers had fled to the San Diego area last weekend, police said.

The FBI and the San Diego County Sheriff's Task Force determined his location and arrested him without incident, police said.

Byers had last been spotted in Greenwich on Friday night, when police determined he was at the JHouse in Greenwich and descended on the establishment, police said.

But he took off in a Range Rover — becoming airborne twice — as officers chased him onto I-95, where he abandoned a Range Rover and ran across three lanes of traffic to escape capture, police said.

Armed officers went door-to-door and searched backyards and helicopters flew overhead as the manhunt continued in nearby Greenwich neighborhoods, but Byers eluded capture, police said.

The police manhunt continued until about 9:30 p.m. Friday, police said. They said Byers had stolen another Range Rover in Port Chester and fled to Harrisburg, Pa., where he also eluded capture by the Pennsylvania State Police.

"This complex case has resulted in a speedy successful arrest through diligent investigation by the Greenwich Police Department with invaluable assistance provided by our partners in the FBI and members of the Connecticut State Police, Stamford PD, Westchester County PD, MTA PD and Port Chester PD," Greenwich police said in a statement.

No mug shot was available, police said. Greenwich police are seeking Byers' extradition back to Connecticut.

More charges from other jurisdictions are likely, police said.
