Trio Caught Shoplifting $1.1K Worth Of Merchandise From Macy's At JV Mall
Three people were nabbed for allegedly shoplifting more than $1,000 in merchandise from the Yorktown Macy's.
Channon Powell, 35, of Newburgh, Maurice Williams, 38, of Monticello, and Evelyn Cruz, 32, of Wallkill, were arrested on Monday, Oct. 28, after police received a report of a grand larceny theft from Macy's, said the Yorktown Police.
After receiving the report, Yorktown officers spotted the suspect's vehicle on Route 6 and stopped them on Mahopac Avenue, police said.

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Will Once Again Come From Hudson Valley

For the second time in as many years, the famous Rockefeller Christmas tree is coming from the Hudson Valley.
The center announced on Instagram on Monday, Oct. 21, that this year's twinkling giant of a tree is a Norway spruce that hails from the Village of Florida in Orange County.
Although they haven't released the details on the tree's height and owners, the center did say the tree will be cut down on Thursday, Nov. 7, and will arrive by truck at Rockefeller Center on Saturday, Nov. 9.

22-Year-Old Scammed Area Resident Into Sending $8,000, Police Say
A 22-year-old man has been charged after police say he scammed an area resident out of $8,000.
New York State Police say Juan Gil-Delao, 22, of Clifton, New Jersey was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 19.
According to police, an Orange County resident in Wallkill reported having been tricked into sending bail money to help a relative on Saturday, July 27.
The victim reported being contacted by someone alleging to be a defense attorney and that a nephew had been arrested out of state and needed bail money, police say.

These Hudson Valley Towns Rank Among Highest In State For Most Black Bears Taken In 2018
Hunters in the Hudson Valley were among the most proficient in taking bears, according to the DEC’s Black Bear Harvest summary.
During the 2018-2019 hunting season, New Yorkers hunted down 1,295 black bears statewide, a decrease of 125 from the previous year.
Of the bears that were hunted, 349 were killed by bow, 66 were killed by a muzzleloader and 11 were taken by youth hunters. In the Southern Zone, 804 bears were killed, 60 percent of which were male, and 491 bears were killed in the Northern Zone.
