Fire officials have released more details about an incident involving a tree falling on an occupied school bus amid stormy weather in the Hudson Valley. The incident happened in Putnam County on Friday, Sept. 8 just after 4 p.m., when fire crews and police responded to Agor Lane in Mahopac after a tree fell on top of a school bus that had been bringing children home. Stormy, Windy Weather Will Sweep Through Region After Brisk, Dry Start To Weekend
A cool, dry, and brisk start to the weekend will be followed by a new round of stormy and windy weather. Saturday, Nov. 14 will be sunny and cool with a high temperature in the upper 40s. The overnight low will be in the mid 30s with areas of frost. After a partly sunny start on Sunday, Nov. 15, clouds will thicken later in the morning with scattered showers arriving after noontime on a day in which the high temperature will be in the low to mid 50s. Customers Report Outages In Putnam As Storms Strike
More than 200 Putnam residents are without power Monday afternoon as stormy weather moved through the county. With rain and strong wind gusts hitting the area, 214 of NYSEG’s 38,310 customers were reporting outages. Putnam Valley was hit the hardest, with 121 outages. Kent (87 outages) and Carmel (six) were also reporting outages. There may be no relief in sight for the Hudson Valley, as thunderstorms are expected to persist throughout the week as the region braces for the effects of Hurricane Florence, which is expected to be a Category 4 storm when it touches down on the East Coast.
