Sleepy Hollow Police: Ossining Man Drove Drunk, Hit Tree

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Police say an Ossining man was driving drunk when he hit a tree on Route 9 in Sleepy Hollow on Thursday.

Ralph Yates, 52, has been charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a chemical test, according to Sleepy Hollow police. Yates was driving northbound on Route 9 around 11 p.m. in a 1994 Honda Accord when he struck a tree by Merlin Avenue.

Police were assisted by the Sleepy Hollow Fire Department and the Sleepy Hollow Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Police did not specify whether Yates was injured in the accident.

Sleepy Hollow police also responded to another car accident on Friday around 8:40 a.m. after two vehicles collided in front of the Phelps Hospital entrance. Police said one vehicle was making a turn into the hospital entrance when a southbound vehicle struck it. No injuries were reported.
