Car Goes Up In Flames On Busy Road Near Lake In Hudson Valley A car fire in the Hudson Valley left a busy main road filled with smoke, firefighters said. The incident happened in Putnam County on Wednesday, Feb. 7 around 11 a.m., when a vehicle caught on fire on Route 301 near Canopus Lake in the town of Kent, according to the Cold Spring Fire Company No. 1, which helped respond to the blaze.  Arriving fire crews found that the vehicle's occupants had been able to escape unharmed and began extinguishing the blaze.  The fire was fully put out by noon, firefighters said. The cause of the blaze was not released.

Lane Of I-84 In Hudson Valley To Close 5 Nights A Week One lane of a busy Hudson Valley highway will close for five nights a week for four weeks to allow for road work.  Beginning on Sunday, Oct. 23, one lane of I-84 westbound and eastbound between Exit 58 (Ludingtonville Road) and the Connecticut state line in the Putnam County town of Kent will close Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for paving work, the New York Department of Transportation announced.  The lane closures will continue Sunday through Thursday nights until Thursday, Nov. 17, officials said.

One Killed In Single-Vehicle Taconic Parkway Crash One person was killed during a single-vehicle crash on the Taconic State Parkway. It happened around 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 7, in Putnam County in the right lane southbound in Kent, said Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police.  The roadway was closed for several hours following the crash for an investigation. Man Killed In Single-Vehicle Hudson Valley Crash A Westchester man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on a stretch of the Taconic State Parkway  in Putnam County. It happened on Monday, Aug. 17 at around 1:30 p.m. in the town of Kent. Robert J. Costabile, 69, of Valhalla, was operating a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle on the northbound side near Hortontown Hill Road when, for unknown reasons, was unable to negotiate a curve and lost control before leaving the roadway, state police said. Costabile succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. This investigation remains ongoing.
