Woman's Body Found Near Cemetery In Region

An investigation is underway after a woman’s body was found outside a cemetery in the region.

The discovery in Rensselaer County was made at around 6:15 p.m. Sunday, March 3 in Troy, near the Oakwood Cemetery.

Troy Police said a passerby called 911 after spotting what they believed to be a body deep in a wooded area west of the cemetery entrance.

Detectives confirmed the remains are those of a woman. A Troy Fire Department crew was called in to assist with recovering the remains, which were located in steep terrain.

An autopsy will be conducted by the Rensselaer County Medical Legal Death Investigator to determine the woman’s identity and cause of death.

Police did not speculate on how long the woman may have been there.
