RED HOOK, N.Y. --- It was a joyous reunion between man and his best friend in Red Hook.

A lost dog was reunited with his owner in Red Hook after an overwhelming response to a Facebook post by the Red Hook Police Department.  The dog was found at 79 Hapeman Hill Rd. and the post was shared 1,100 times by 45,184 people.

A Rhode Island resident, who previously lived in Red Hook, recognized the dog and contacted police.

The owner is an elderly resident who has owned the dog for 17 years.

"Since his wife's passing she is his only companion and was very excited to have her back," Red Hook Police said.
