A Hudson Valley community is up in arms after an alleged racist incident at a high school basketball game involving students. On Wednesday, Feb. 9 Pearl River High School was hosting the Nyack High School boy’s basketball game when video showed Pearl River fans making monkey noises as Black players for the opposing team shot free throws. Former HS Sports Standout In Rockland Dies At Age 54
A former high school sports standout in the area who went on to play at the collegiate level has died at age 54. Christopher Peter Sennas was a 1985 graduate of Nyack High School, where he earned All-County and All-Conference honors in lacrosse. He graduated from Roanoke College in 1989 where he was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team and a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He died on Monday, May 24, following "a brief and valiant fight with cancer," according to his obituary. He was surrounded by family and friends. Following college, Chris pursued his passion…

Two schools in an area district have returned to in-person learning, though the district’s high school remains closed after new positive COVID-19 cases were confirmed. Nyack Schools Superintendent James Montesano issued an update to parents over the weekend, after being forced to close off Valley Cottage Elementary School and the Nyack Middle School through Friday, Nov. 6. Report Of Snapchat School Threat Investigated By Police In Rockland
Police agencies in Rockland County were called in to investigate a potential school shooting threat that was posted on social media. The Clarkstown Police Department said on Wednesday, May 5 that it received a report this week from a student in the Nyack School District of a possible school shooting that may take place at Nyack or North Rockland High School. Three Rockland Community College students have been awarded with the highest SUNY honor: the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Some of Rockland County’s best and brightest students were among those chosen as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, which celebrates academic achievement in high school students. On Wednesday, 16,000 high school seniors were chosen from around the country. Those 16,000 will soon be pared to 7,500 finalists, who will be picked to receive upwards of $31 million in scholarships, which will be announced next spring as they prepare to continue their educations in college. Suspicious Package Delivered To Nyack High School
ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - The Clarkstown Police Department are investigating a suspicious package that was delivered to Nyack High School. Officers were dispatched to the school on Wednesday morning following reports of the suspicious package, though the nature of the package or its contents have not been released. Police said that the package was removed from the school safely and there was no danger to students. Updates are expected from the department as they become available.
