Person Struck, Killed By Metro-North Train In Hudson Valley A person was killed after being struck by a Metro-North train in the region. The incident occurred in Dutchess County around 11:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, in New Hamburg, a hamlet of Poughkeepsie. According to Dave Steckel, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the person was struck by a Metro-North train on the tracks near the New Hamburg station. Person Fatally Struck By Metro-North Train An investigation is underway after an individual was fatally struck by a train in the Hudson Valley over the weekend. A person was hit by a northbound Metro-North train in Dutchess County between New Hamburg and Poughkeepsie at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, according to representatives from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Metro-North To Start Upgrading Parking Lots At Three Hudson Valley Stations Metro-North Railroad has announced a series of parking lot upgrades at three Hudson Valley stations. MTA said upgrades will be made at the stations in Putnam County -- in Cold Spring -- and Dutchess County -- in Beacon, and New Hamburg -- in August and September. MTA said temporary closures and parking restrictions will be necessary as work is underway to create better drainage and install new pavement and pavement markings. Crews from the Arlington Fire Department responded to the Greenbriar Condominiums on South Road (Route 9) in Poughkeepsie at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, where there was a report of smoke coming from underneath the sink of a unit. The MTA is reviewing a proposal to increase fees at 25 station parking facilities that are controlled by the railroad. It would impact riders east of the Hudson River, including the Harlem, Hudson and New Haven lines. Permit holders for 16-hour parking would pay an average of $42.75 annually, approximately 12 cents a day. Customers who use daily meters will pay an average of $14.17 more monthly, with the meters increasing by 50 to 75 cents for 16-hour parking.
