Man Enters Manslaughter Plea For Crash That Killed Rockland Man A man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the connection with a crash that killed a man in Sullivan County. Firefighters Rush From Rockland Brush Blaze To Mahwah House Fire Mahwah firefighters were helping their colleagues from Hillburn, Sloatsburg and Tallan douse a brush fire in a remote wooded area of Rockland on Sunday when a house fire broke out nearby in town. The fire, which originated in the kitchen, was quickly knocked down, although it did cause some damage. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Ramsey, Franklin Lakes, Allendale, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River and Suffern. No injuries were reported. Adopt: Abused Franklin Lakes German Shepherds Need Homes The 14 German Shepherds abused by a Franklin Lakes woman are in need of forever homes.  The dogs, currently in Paramus, were surrendered by 65-year-old Danielle Weitz who "got to walk away with a slap on the wrist" after pleading guilty Thursday to a single count of animal cruelty for severely damaging the animals.  She kept them in an illegal kennel that she operated from her home, an animal control investigator said Thursday. Authorities Try To ID Victim In Overnight Route 287 Crash Near NY Border MAHWAH, N.J. -- One person was killed when a Jeep plowed into a parked tractor-trailer overnight Sunday on Route 287 in Mahwah near the New York State line, authorities said. Authorities were trying to identify the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene after the fiery 2:30 a.m. crash on the northbound highway melted even the license plates of the Cherokee, which struck a parked rig hauling cases of water. Mahwah Fire Companies 1, 2 and 4 responded and extinguished the flames. Franklin Lakes provided mutual aid. New Jersey State Police were investigating.
