Woman Sentenced For Leaving Newborn In Toilet Of Area Motel
A woman who admitted to leaving her newborn baby for dead in a toilet bowl in a motel room has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision. Teresa Smith, 23, was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown on Tuesday, June 18, after pleading guilty to assault, said the Orange County District Attorney's Office. Woman Admits To Leaving Newborn In Toilet At Area Motel
A 23-year-old woman has admitted to abandoning her newborn baby in the toilet bowl of a motel room in the area. Teresa Smith has pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in connection to her leaving her baby in a toilet at a Budget Inn Motel on Route 9W in Newburgh. According to Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, on Nov. 1 last year, workers at the motel discovered blood, other bodily fluids and soiled clothes in the motel room and contacted police.
