The arrest occurred at 10:30 p.m. at a Tomkins Avenue residence, where officers were carrying out a stolen-vehicle investigation, police say.

Upon arrival, officers allegedly found two men carrying large bags of what appeared to be marijuana, according to police.

Two men at the residence reportedly tried to flee through a rear lower-level door but were taken into custody, police say.

The suspects were transported to the Stony Point Police Department, where officers obtained a search warrant and searched the premises at 6 a.m. Monday, according to police.

Police recovered over 15 pounds of what was described as processed marijuana that was packaged for sale and over $8,400 in cash, authorities say.

Police charged Jerome Marrero, 34, of Stony Point, and Giovanni Resto, 25, of Murrieto, Calif., each with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child, according to police.

Additionally, Magdelina Estrella, 30, of Stony Point, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said. She is reportedly Marrero’s girlfriend and the mother of a 10-year-old girl who was allegedly living in the residence, according to police.

Estrella was processed at the Stony Point Police Department and issued an appearance ticket, due in Stony Point Justice Court on Jan. 5, police say.

Marrero and Resto were being held Monday morning at the Stony Point Police Department awaiting arraignment, according to police.
