Grief counselors were at school Thursday when school officials got the news that Corwin, of Glen Spey, in Sullivan, did not survive his injuries. New York State Police said the car went off the roadway trying to negotiate the curve, then hit a tree.
He was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where he died, officials said. Corwin was a technology teacher at the middle school in Slate Hill, N,Y.
"The entire MVCSD community mourns the loss of this beloved teacher and friend," Brian C. Monahan, superintendent of Minisink Valley Community School District, wrote in a letter to parents and the community. "He touched and inspired the lives of many, and he will be greatly missed."
Monahan said counselors will be available to students at school for several days to help them cope.
