Hackers Steal Personal Information From 30 Stony Point Employees

STONY POINT, N.Y. -- About 30 current and former Stony Point employees tried to file their taxes this year only to find that someone had already filed using their Social Security numbers, according to lohud.com.

How the employees' information was compromised remained unclear, but authorities from Stony Point and Rockland County were said to be on the case, according to lohud.com.

Town Supervisor Jim Monaghan told lohud.com that employees from every department had been affected by the security breach, including a member of the Town Board. Monaghan said the breach did not appear to have had an impact on private town residents, according to lohud.com.

The thefts were reported to Stony Point police on April 12, according to lohud.com, which also reported that the town has 83 full-time employees and part-time workers.
