West Haverstraw-Formed Relay For Life 'Eggs' Lawns For Fundraiser

PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- A local Relay for Life team has come up with the perfect way to raise money for the American Cancer Society, by filling plastic Easter eggs with candy and hiding them on your lawn for a fee.

The team, formed by Brian Dolan with the help of friends and the West Haverstraw Volunteer Hose Company No. 2, is in its second year of stuffing the eggs full of goodies and selling them for $30 for 50 candy-filled eggs.

This year's Relay for Life event will take place on June 4 and 5 at the Central Avenue field in Pearl River. It is a family friendly overnight event. There are all kinds of activities throughout the event, as well as food and entertainment, Dolan said.

"As a team, we are always looking for ways to raise funds for the ACS (American Cancer Society). We came up with the idea to egg lawns after seeing various egg hunts being sponsored at different areas throughout our area, and thought it would be a great idea if somehow we could bring the eggs to the community. Thus, 'Egg my Lawn' was born," he said. "We are now in our second year of this fundraiser, as last year was a huge success. We received such positive feedback and great support from the community that we decided to do it again."

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature event, with more than four million people participating in 6,000 Relays in 24 countries. Relay is now the world’s single largest fundraising event to end cancer, uniting communities across the globe to finish the fight against cancer.

Dolan's team is accepting orders for the "Egg My House Event."

"How great would it be for your kids to wake up Easter morning to a yard scattered with eggs without you having to do any of the work," he said.
