The live art event, Haverstraw RiverArt Projex: 3, will take place in Emeline Park on the banks of the Hudson River, so it is appropriate that organizers are looking for artists who are interested in emerging from traditional studio, gallery and museum spaces into the great outdoors.
The mission of the interactive project is to “express and interpret the cultural landscape” of Haverstraw, a vibrant river town.
The art may be made from found or indigenous Hudson River materials and outside objects.
It can be in any form -- sculpture, painting, site performances, sound or video projections – but it has to be able to withstand the elements for one day at least.
RiverArts will select up to five individual artists or artist teams. Each submission accepted will receive a $500 honorarium.
Artists must be able to interact with festival attendees and be on-site from noon until 6 p.m.
They must submit a brief description for all installations and hand in proposals no later than Thursday. Winners will be announced Monday, July 18, and the festival itself takes place on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The projects should reference at least one of the following: the Hudson River itself, its geology, natural assets, people and diverse culture, or its history.
The event will be juried by Carole Perry, artistic director of the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack.
Perry has had seven years of curatorial experience with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
