Salute Vets, Enjoy Parades At Rockland's Many Memorial Day Celebrations

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Memorial Day, which is officially celebrated Monday May 30 but unofficially begins just around now, isn't just about savoring the long weekend and easing into summer mode; it's first and foremost about honoring the men and women who have died serving in our armed forces.

Friday, May May 27

New City: The Memorial Day program starts at 11 a.m. at Street Community Center at 31 Zukor Rd. Refreshments will be served from noon to 1 p.m.

Saturday, May 28

Congers: The Veterans Memorial Association of Congers, Inc. sponsors the Congers Memorial Day parade which begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Congers/Valley Cottage Volunteer Ambulance Corps. building and proceeds down Kings Highway to the VMA Building on Lake Rd. A memorial service will be held at the VMA Building after the parade.

Monday, May 30

Nyack: The Nyack American Legion is behind the annual Memorial Day Parade which starts at 11 a.m.. The lineup begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Artopee Way parking lot behind the former Riverspace Arts Center with a ceremony and festivities to follow in Memorial Park.

Sloatsburg: Join the Memorial Day festivities at l0 a.m. starting at the Municipal Building, 96 Orange Turnpike. The parade marches down Route 17. march down Route l7 with refreshments following at the Sloatsburg Community Fields Pavilion.

Stony Point: A veterans service starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Mt. Rest Cemetery on West Main Street. The annual parade begins at 9:30 a.m. on the corner of Jay Street and Teneyeck Street, with a service at 10:30 a.m. at Stony Point Town Hall, 74 E. Main St.

Suffern: Join the Village of Suffern and the Fromm Maxwell- Debaun American Legion Post #859 for the Annual Memorial Day Parade on Lafayette Ave. at 11 a.m. The parade will kick off at parking lot A by the train station and continue to the Soldiers Monument.
