The names of a kindergarten student and his mother who were fatally struck by a bus while walking to a Westchester school have been released by police. Mamaroneck resident Molly Murphy Donovan, age 43, and her 6-year-old son, Michael Donovan Volpe, were killed in a crash in in Mamaroneck on Thursday, June 20 around 8:30 a.m. They were struck by a school bus at the intersection of New Street and Mamaroneck Avenue, the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department announced on Friday, June 21. Following an investigation that found a Westchester school district failed to adequately address race- and gender-based bullying and harassment against students, the district has agreed to make the needed changes to improve its response to these incidents, officials said. After a six-week nationwide search process, a school district in Westchester has named a new superintendent who will be arriving from a district in a neighboring state. The Mamaroneck Union Free School District has named Charles B. Sampson as its next superintendent, the district's school board announced on Tuesday, June 13. 19: School In Mamaroneck Goes Remote After Positive Cases
A new school in Westchester has switched to remote learning due to COVID-19 exposure. The Mamaroneck Union Free School District announced that due to a number of newly-confirmed positive cases, the Mamaroneck Avenue Elementary School is closed for in-person learning from Friday, Oct. 16 through Wednesday, Oct. 28.
