On The Rocks: Vessel Becomes Stuck In Long Island Sound Off Rye Coast A vessel found itself between a rock and a hard place after becoming stuck in Long Island Sound off the Westchester coast.  The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 30, when a vessel became stuck on the Scotch Caps reef off the coast of Rye, according to Rye Police. Luckily, the vessel's operator was uninjured. With the help of the Westchester County and Mamaroneck Police Departments, the boat was eventually freed. Emergency crews along the Erie Canal were called at around 11:20 a.m. Monday, June 12, with reports that a vessel had capsized at the Lockport Cave, located in Lockport in Niagara County. The historic site is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Buffalo.
